I am a freelance writer that took a twenty year hiatus from the literary world. I grew up in a small town in Michigan in the 70's and 80's. During my youth I was mesmerized by science fiction and horror, especially the movies and television shows. Star Wars, Godzilla, Friday the 13th, Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Batman, etc... I loved them all.
In high school and college I took an interest in sports journalism, but never really found my niche. After college I spent the next twenty years immersed in the real life world of student loans, credit card debt, and retail. All the while trying to figure out who I am. I knew I wanted to be a writer, but I just didn't think it would ever come to be. I would self deprecate and make excuses as to why it wasn't happening for me.
It was a summer evening in 1997 that changed my life forever. I met and married the love of my life. We have spent the last 18 years happily married, but I felt unfulfilled in my career.
In the summer of 2015 I had an epiphany. I could spend the rest of my life doing something that my heart really wasn't into, or I could take a leap of faith and do what makes me happy. Writing.
In the last twenty years I never felt I had the time to finish a novel. I was always so exhausted at the end of the day that sleep always took precedence. During this time I fell in love with the short story and flash fiction. It allowed me to escape into different worlds without a long commitment.
This blog represents who I am and what I like. Although this blog is mostly dedicated to flash fiction horror and science fiction, I will be posting whatever else comes out of my twisted mind. I look forward to any comments or feedback. If you like what you read, feel free to share!
